Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is banned. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that features a number of conveniences aside from the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 tables.
